About the Author

Jim Harrison Brown Dog Jim Harrison

Jim Harrison was an American novelist, poet, and screenwriter. He was born in Grayling, Michigan, in 1937. Harrison's work is often set in the rural Midwest, and he is known for his lyrical prose and his exploration of themes such as love, loss, and redemption.

Harrison's novels include Wolf: A False Memoir (1971),Legends of the Fall (1979),Dalva (1988),The Road Home (1998),and Brown Dog (2008). His poetry collections include Plain Song (1965),Outlyer and Ghazals (1982),After Ikkyū (1996),and The Great Song: A Centennial Poem for Walt Whitman (2019).

Harrison's work has been translated into more than 30 languages. He has received numerous awards, including the National Book Critics Circle Award, the Lannan Literary Award, and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Academy of American Poets.

Harrison died in Livingston, Montana, in 2016.
