The Boy from Baltimore

Born on December 19, 1934, in Baltimore, Maryland, Alvin Clarence Kaline Jr. grew up in a modest neighborhood with a love for baseball. From a young age, his exceptional talent was evident, as he led his high school team to two city championships.

A Tiger at Heart

In 1953, at the age of 18, Kaline was signed by the Detroit Tigers. He made his major league debut the following year and quickly became a fan favorite, earning the nickname "Mr. Tiger." With his graceful fielding in right field and powerful bat, Kaline became a cornerstone of the Tigers' success.
